J’aime Paris

Ohh… Paris,  such a lovely city.  Here I am reminiscing about my time in Europe in mid-October, as well as something else has been on my mind since I got home from Europe, and I still haven’t gotten it off yet. (sigh…<3).  The song that describes my mood at the moment is by one of my favorite artists: What Hurts the Most by Cascada.

Paris was my most favorite city I had visited.  Everything about it was so lovely.  Except that I wouldn’t be able to live there. Everyone smokes cigarettes, and I hate cigarettes!  Unless I pick up smoking, I’ll live in Paris, but no.  But I would love to go back to Paris!  The great parts of the city is that the Parisians (people of Paris) want to keep the city the way it is, and prevents modernization from happening.  Meaning there’s no modern buildings in the city center of Paris, and there are no buildings that is higher than 30 stories or so.  There is an industrial part of Paris though, it’s just not in the old city center (off in the distance on the right photo):

But the rest of the city (View is from the Eiffel Tower):

The other part about Paris that made it so perfect was that the food was excellent!!!  (Nutella Crêpes!!!) well french wine was excellent too.  I think this was the first city I went to without pubs.  Paris has french bars, and wine bars, but no Irish/English pubs (well duh… I’m in France!) lol, well it was something I wasn’t used to, but I could live with out it.

The Arc de Triomphe (left), one of Paris’ iconic symbols, was built for those who died in the French revolution and the Napoleonic wars.  One thing about Europe is that the major cities love their arches!  Every single city I’ve been to in Europe has a arch!  I’ll be blogging about arches in Europe later, but Paris’ arch is by far the greatest I’ve ever seen.
Also one of the most dangerous intersections in the world.  Apparently it’s a giant round-about with 8 different streets merging into it.  There are no traffic laws at the round-about, and there are no lane dividers, and your insurance doesn’t cover you if you get into an accident at the Arc de Triomphe.  It’s very amusing to watch because there will be an accident almost every hour.  My friend who is a resident of Paris said she is afraid of this intersection and would try avoiding it at all costs.  I wonder if the driving test for your French license will make you drive through the Arc de Triomphe intersection.

The Louvre (right), the largest art museum in the world (and the location of the Holy Grail for The DaVinchi Code fans).  The Louvre is famous for the famous artworks it contains such as Mona Lisa (the Orginal!!!) haha, and several thousands of other famous artworks. It was such as magnificent museum. My favorite part of the museum is the architecture of the interior is beautifully decorated.  Also all the ceiling art.  Here are some photos of the interior art and the ceiling art.

Mary Magdalene sculpture by Gregor ERHART

One of my favorite video games of all time is Xenosaga and the Character Mary Magdalene is featured and now I know why the character designer gave her such long and beautiful hair, and royal blue eyes.  (my blog banner and display picture is from Xenosaga) 🙂

Mona Lisa (the original!!) by  Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci

Basilique du Sacré-Cœur was a Basilica of the Sacred heart of Jesus.  One of my favorite places in Paris because it was on top the hill of Montmarte, the highest point in the city of Paris.  It was the most beautiful and romantic spot in the city. (sigh ❤ the nostalgia).  There are some crazy street performers (as well as hagglers on the street, but 2 beers for the price of 1 is not bad).  But the street performers there are intense.  They’re practically putting on a professional show!  Here are two Youtube videos of the performer:

Notre Dame de Paris is a magnificent catholic cathedral and also one of the iconic buildings of Paris.   It is a very extravagant cathedral, took ages to build and complete. There so many details on the exterior of the church! Especially the Gargoyles!  haha.  Here are some more photos of the Notre Dame (did you know it means ‘Our lady of Paris’!  How elegant) lol.

La Tour Eiffel: Paris’ most iconic structure, and the symbol of romance in Paris, and of France.  Nicknamed La dame de fer(the Iron Lady).  Tallest building in Paris (well they forbade any other modern buildings taller than the Eiffel Tower), and it shall remain the tallest building in Paris for a while.  It was built for “Exposition Universelle, a World’s Fair marking the centennial celebration of the French Revolution”  between 1887-1889.  After the celebration it was meant to be torn down after 10 years because it was hated by the Parisians, but after it was made into a radio tower, it served a purpose, and today, it’s one of the most beautiful structures in the world, as hopeless romantics flock from all over the world to spend the day in it’s presence.

I do have to admit that Paris was a very romantic city.  I fell in love with not just the city <3… The lovely sunset over the city with the reflection in the river.  Lovers flock from all over the world to padlock their love to the bridge over the river as the sun sets into the city, as the stereotypical accordion musician street performer plays…  Sigh… oh the intoxicating nostalgia… I loved Paris.

Well if you seen extravagant… you haven’t seen Chateau Versailles.  Stay tuned more to come from the Gardens of Versailles.  Next blog post! 🙂
