When in Dublin….

It has been a grand week here in Ireland!  It’s been sunny everyday this week, probably the best weather that Ireland will have all year.  I was super exhausted the first day arriving… considering the 8 hour jet lag, couldn’t sleep on the plane because it was in the afternoon “California time” on the plane ride, and when I got to Europe it was early in the morning, so no time to sleep there.  Had some trouble looking for Wifi too, so I spent most of my first days in a coffee shop stealing Wifi (Can’t live without it).  The Irish people here are all so very nice people.  Spent the rest of the week meeting new people, and working at Trinity College Dublin (where there are so many tourists every day…since it is the oldest school in Ireland).  I’ll tell you more about my super awesome electronics engineering research work in my next post. πŸ˜‰

Apparently what people do for fun around here are going to the pubs and clubbing, two of which I have never done in my life… it was an interesting experience indeed.  I’ve been hanging around with the other interns, whom of which are all from different parts of Europe, and the Americans who are all from UCSB.  We spend our days checking out the city, hanging out in pubs, and have discussions about how different our cultures are.  For instance: Americans calls fried potatoes french fries (I’m still not sure why they’re french), and potato chips, where as in the UK, they call it chips for fries, and crisps for chips.  LOL, we had a long discussion about that as well, whereas in France, they call fries/chips, frits (I think).  We also make fun of each other accents.  Good times πŸ˜€  And lemonade is not a lemon drink here in Europe! it’s more of a carbonated, clear drink, not lemon-colored.

I’ve still been staying up late taking to friends from California, because of the 8 hour time difference it’s the afternoon in CA, where as it’s late night here.  Also the sun sets at 10pm here, so I lose perception of when it is late and when it is not…I would say I’m still on the Engineering Time clock, where I’m sleeping at 3am, and waking up at 8am for work lol.  And weekends, I doubt I’ll be getting enough sleep in either, with the late night clubbing till 2am.  Oh dear… thank the electrical engineering schedule…I’m able to keep up. lol.  Well I’ve been trying to adapt to the “grand” culture quite well, with the drinking every night, and clubbing with friends.  I’ve been having a good time πŸ™‚  you can view my photos in my picasa photo album posted earlier this week.  I’ll be updating weekly, and posting pictures weekly of my adventures.  Till next time!  Cheers!
